At 15 weeks, Spanky is the size of an apple, 4 inches long and weighing in at 2 1/2 ounces. According to these wacky BabyCenter people, if you were to shine a light at my stomach, Spanky would move away from the light. Please don’t shine a light at my stomach. That is weird.
We saw the midwife this week and got to hear the heartbeat again. This time, it sounded like horses. I hope we are not having a horse.
Pregnancy has been good for my mild hypochondria. Anything strange or out of the ordinary now has a very clear reason. Strange creepy rashes all over…must be pregnancy hormones. Can’t sleep…obviously pregnancy. I am not sure what I am going to do when I don’t have an excuse anymore. I will probably go back to fantasizing about dengue fever, monkey pox and blood clots.

I went to the doctor today and got to hear the heartbeat. It was a lot louder and clearer than before! So that was cool. Except that it totally sounds like a dog barking. In a very rhythmic ruff-ruff sort of way. I asked the doctor if it was normal for it to sound like a dog. She looked at me like I was crazy.
Oh, it’s week 14 and Spanky is the size of a lemon, measuring 3.5 inches and weighing 1.5 ounces. This website really loves its citrus. I cheated and looked up the sizes for the remainder of the pregnancy. It totally gets better, so stay tuned.

I probably should have mentioned that everything is fine. I feel great. I might be starting to show a bit. I am also suffering from the requisite heartburn. And I told people at work about Spanky’s existence. So all-in-all, the second trimester gets 2 thumbs up.
I am going to the dr. on Friday. This will hopefully be the last visit with the bad dr. before completely transitioning to the midwife. I am hoping for a quick visit, where they are likely to remind me that gluten-free is the equivalent of malnourished. But on the good side, I will probably get to hear the heartbeat.

So we heard Spanky Lou’s heartbeat today. It was 172 beats per minute. There is this old wives tale that predicts gender based on heartrate. I guess a fast rate means a girl, a slow rate a boy. Jason thinks that if Spanky Lou is a girl, then chances are she will demand a pedicure upon birth. Well, obviously! She is related to me!
No ultrasound today, but everything seems to be progressing normally and smoothly.
